Paige of Studio Bicyclette and I decided to hang out during the summer and put together some fun DIY projects for you! Because who doesn’t want more sparkle, feathers, glitter and pretty cocktails in their life? Answer: no one. No one doesn’t want that.
We want our projects to be super easy and accessible so you can rock your awesome new pieces the same day, and brag about your creative abilities. Our first instalment is embellished sunglasses. This is definitely one of the easiest – all you need are a pair of sunglasses you love the shape of, a bunch of gems, and some gem glue. Boom!
Awesome sunnies, pretty gems/embellisment of your choice (pompoms, peanuts, what have you), and gem glue.
Bit of inspo?
This isn't a crucial step, but a few lil inspo pics might help you map out a direction for your project so you can plan with confidence.
We used F-6000 industrial strength adhesive. Basically, gem glue. I'm sure there are other uses, but it is sold at all the beading and jewellery making shops I go to, so that is clearly one of the intended uses. I just put a little bit of the glue on a piece of paper, and using tweezers to hold the little gems, I apply the glue to the back either by dipping the back in the glue, or using a pin to apply a bit to the back. It dries fairly quickly, so just use a bit a time and squeeze out a bit more when it starts to get stiff.
If any little threads of glue happen to go across your lenses (almost certainly will happen) don't touch them. Just let them fully dry for a while. After an hour or so you can feel confident that they'll just come right off when you carefully pull one end, even if there is a reflective finish on your lenses (like on mine). If the glue isn't dry and you try to rub it off, you could potentially smear it onto the lens and then you'll be sad.
